Infield Fly Rule

Atlanta, thank you for participating in this year's playoffs. That didn't take long did it? Our playoff run lasted about three hours. The game had a very questionable infield fly rule call. The rule itself is complicated. The idea of the rule is that if there were less than two outs and two runners on base and a pop fly was hit, it keeps an infielder from intentionally dropping the ball hit to him and then picking it up and then throwing it to bases in order to get outs at those bases in case the runners were leading off at the time. I used to work with Special Olympics. During softball season, the competition organizers used the infield fly rule. I to argued that it wasn't necessary. I felt that anyone that actually could explain the infield fly rule probably didn't meet qualifying standards for Special Olympics anyway.

Speaking of Special Olympics, one of my more embarrassing moments came with a softball team I was coaching. I was warming up our team before a tournament by hitting balls to them. I hit my first ball and someone from the crowd yelled out, "Hey, nice hit." Thanks buddy, but I'm a coach, not a participant, OK. That makes a person a little self-conscious for a while.

Anyway, now that the Braves are gone, my focus is on the Reds. I have access to a TV tonight. There are two games, I want to see, but they're both on the west coast, so they're obscenely late for me. The Reds game starts at 9:37 pm EST and the Oregon Duck Football game starts at 10:30. Powers that be, lets try to find a solution to this. Games shouldn't be starting after my bedtime.

By the way, today I saw a sign for a restaurant called "Bubba's Good Eats". Toto, I don't think we're in Oregon anymore.
