This is a special Friday edition of my blog because I found out today that there is a blue moon tonight. A blue moon is when there are two full moons in one month. Full moons happen about once a month so to have two in one month doesn't take place very often. Thus the phrase "Once in a blue moon". There was one at the start of the month and then today on the 31st. This is even better because of the song Blue Moon of Kentucky. I have that on a 3 CD set of "Elvis in the 50's". That is a great collection. That was back when Elvis was super cool. After the 50's He was still popular but became a little Pat Boony and his songs weren't nearly as fun. Blue moon of Kentucky keep on shining, Shine on the one that's gone and made me blue...It's a great song and especially how He did it. (Yes, Elvis and God both get to have their pronouns capitalized.) There are a bunch of songs about Kentucky - Blue Moon of Kentucky, Kentucky Woman - Neil Diamond, Kentucky Rain - Elvis again, My Old Kentucky Home - Stephen Foster. There are probably others. Oregon has ... well I can't think of any, but there's got to be something. The house Stephen Foster wrote about when he wrote that song still exists and I hear is not too far away from us.
I remember when I was in school I heard that Elvis was doing a concert in Eugene. I thought, wow, I've got to get my parents to take me to that. Nope. But I thought, that's fine, there'll be plenty of other chances to see him in the future. Nope. I saw Ricky Nelson in concert like two or three days after Elvis died. He told stories about how they would hang out together. That was cool.
