The election is about one year away. This is a good time for me to submit a presidentially themed blog. This will be my list of most overrated presidents. It's not all that bad to be on this list. You can't be on it unless you're thought highly of by a lot of people to begin with. If nobody knows anything about you, you couldn't make the list. (I'm looking at you, Millard Fillmore.) I'll do my top 3. What? It looks like we have a tie at number 3. So I guess its a top 4. Different groups of people would be angry that Reagan and Kennedy make the list, but I'm calling it like I see it.
#3 - Ronald Reagan. Sorry. I know your fans like to claim you ended the Cold War, but I don't think so. It actually ended while George Bush Sr. was president. I think my favorite episode ever of the Simpsons will bear me out on that. Every president from Truman on had a part in ending the Cold War. It wasn't just you. And just because you said the Berlin Wall should come down, and then it did, doesn't mean it happened because of you.
Tied for # 3 - John Kennedy. You did do a nice job handling the Cuban Missile Crisis. However, Cuba tried to install missiles because of you sponsoring the attack of them (and doing a bad job of it) at the Bay of Pigs. So at best they cancel each other out. You became president in the first place by stealing the 1960 election. What does it say about you that you make Richard Nixon look like he took the high road? Plus, most of your other accomplishments were because of Bobby. And you didn't write your Pulitzer Prize winning Profiles in Courage.
#2 - Andrew Jackson. He somehow got away with defying the Supreme Court. He messed up the economy by getting rid of the National Bank, causing the economy to fall apart for his successor. He totally cheated Indian tribes by forcing them to move so he could get their land. He promised he would move them to a better place (Seriously? Oklahoma?) He was a hothead. He was in duels and killed people in them. Good thing he wasn't in charge of any nuclear weapons. He was an enemy to my hero - Davy Crockett. I don't know why Jackson gets rated so high. We need to kick him off the $20 bill and put someone like Davy on it instead.
I'll do my #1 next week. This will be like a cliffhanger.
