People I've Touched, Part II

Whoa. I have to do a part 2 to last week’s blog on famous people I’ve touched. I thought of some more. Oh, I don’t know, how about two Miss Americas? Oh yeah, that’s right. How could I have forgotten that?  With one of them I made a little joke. Then she laughed and hugged me. No I’m not dreaming that. It actually happened. I have a picture of the other time it happened. I’m not sure where it is right now, but just trust me, it exists. I’ll post it when I find it. I also touched my hero, Pete Rose. He might seem like a pompous jerk to you. Well, alright, he seems that way in person too, but I still like him. I also touched the mascot for the San Diego Padres, the San Diego Chicken. Not as big a thrill as the others, but still, pretty cool.

Speaking of baseball, just to let you know, I’m not rooting for anyone in the World Series. From a previous blog you might recall that I have given up rooting for sports teams. That is following the gut-wrenching collapse of my Atlanta Braves in the final month of this season. Whoever I might root for in the World Series would lose, making me sad. I don’t need that. I heard a good quote from Pat Riley a couple days ago. “There’s winning and there’s misery.” The joy you feel from winning does not equal the pain you feel from losing. This isn't fair. You might consider the following strategy. Just “root” for whoever ends up winning. Go on QVC one minute after the last out of the World Series and order the winning team’s championship shirt. When it arrives, wear it proudly as if you were pulling for them all along. I would think that would really be a self esteem raiser. Just do that year after year. I was always going to do that if I ever actually had a favorite team win a championship. This way is much more efficient.
