George Harrison

I watched a movie about George Harrison a couple days ago. It was interesting. He had some great songs - What is Life and This Song were two of my favorite ever.

This Song was about how he lost a case for copyright violation. They said My Sweet Lord was too close to He's So Fine. If you listen to them both, they are completely different topics, but eerily similar music. The ruling was it was subconsciously done, but done nonetheless.

He would have been ok if My Sweet Lord wasn't such a big hit. I think it was a hit because people thought it was a nice religious song, but didn't listen all the background singing. He's backed up by some kind of Hare Krishna choir. I don't want to run down a person's religion, but here we go. I get and respect that he was a searcher after spiritual truth. But with all the religions that are out there, I think he could have chosen a better one. He said that he once chanted for three days straight. I get that you're rich and don't have to work, but you've got way too much time on your hands.

And what's with that sitar music? I don't know how the rest of the Beatles put up with that. Of all the instruments the most famous rock band in the world could have gone with, sitar has to be at the bottom of the list. It's like baseball stadiums that play organ music. Something just a little more macho than that would seem appropriate.

I've seen two ex-Beatles and that is where that is going to stand. If they were still around I would go to great lengths to complete my Beatle set with George and John. I'm sad George is gone. If the Hare Krishnas are right (pretty sure they're not) George is in a better place. I hope so.
