The Bible

As I continue with my off and on book club, we come to the Bible, the biggest best seller of all-time. Here are top 10 cool facts I found regarding the Bible.

  1. Written between 1400 BC and 100 AD
  2. Not divided into chapters until 1228 AD
  3. Not divided into verses until 1448 AD (An important step, making it much easier to take things out of context.)
  4. Total words in the Bible - 773,692
  5. The middle verse of the Bible - Psalms 103:1,2 (a tie because there are an even number of verses.)
  6. Interestingly, Psalm 117 is both the shortest and the middle chapter of the Bible
  7. Also interesting the shortest chapter is only two chapters away from the longest - Psalm 119. It would have been really cool if 118 was the middle chapter. Close, but not quite there.
  8. Longest word: Maher-shalal-hash-baz
  9. Daniel 4:37 has all the letters of the alphabet, except Q
  10. Longest verse in the Bible is Esther 8:9. Also, I believe that is the only book in the Bible that doesn't mention God. How did that make the cut, anyway.
This was a great post. Really interesting, plus easy since I stole all the information from other websites. By the way, some of these could be wrong. It would depend on the version you use.
