Rossen to the Rescue II

As promised, more advice from Jeff Rossen that might save your life, or at least make it more convenient.

How do you survive a plane crash?

  1. Sit in the middle of the train. It is the part most likely to derail.
  2. If there is a crash and your car has major problems (e.g., filled with smoke), go to another car. It sounds obvious, but people don't think to do that.
  3. If there is an evacuation, stay off the third rail. The "third rail" is a real thing.
How to avoid ticket scams.

  1. First of all, 54% of tickets got to automatically dialing bots, early releases to fan club members, etc. A Justin Bieber concert had 92% of his tickets being pre-sold. (Is he still in high demand? That makes me sad.)
  2. There are lots of fake tickets - buy from places you know, like Ticketmaster.
What if your small child is locked in a hot car?

  1. Break the window on the far side from where the child is sitting.
  2. Don't use your elbow or wrist.
  3. Jeff says use something from your trunk, like a tire iron or lug wrench. (Jeff, if you have keys to unlock your trunk, why don't you just unlock your car?)
  4. The most breakable part is in a bottom corner of the glass. Go for that.
  5. You can buy a "window breaker" for about $10. (Chances are you'll keep it in your car or house, out of reach.)
How to keep from a sun burn.
  1. Stay inside (That one is mine. You're welcome.)
  2. Use SPF 30 to 50. SPF 100 is not twice as good as SPF 50. It's about 1% better.
  3. Reapply often. Despite what they say, there is no such thing as sweatproof or waterproof.
There are plenty more great ideas in the book. I think you should buy it.
