I read the book Fire and Fury, the book about the Trump White House. Fire and Fury (alternate title: How not to do stuff) is not really all the eye opening. I think most have realized the gears aren't exactly meshing so far.
I've read a lot of presidential biographies. I usually don't feel good or bad about them. Its just what they are. No need to pass judgement. Same with President Trump. What was interesting is to see how the book compared to what the outside world was seeing. I think it comes out pretty much the same. Here we go:
Donald Trump: Not a scholar. Doesn't seem to do a lot of reading on what is presented to him. When he gets bored in a meeting, which seems to happen a lot, he just gets up and walks out of the room. Came into the presidency without a lot of knowledge on how things gets done in Washington and seems to be in pretty much the same place now.
Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump - They are married and similar in other ways as well. They are so much the same Bannon just refers to them as Jarvanka. They have the ear of the President, but don't have a lot of knowledge or other contacts to get things done. I think a lot of the firings have been at at their urging. Jared Kushner's title I believe is "Senior Advisor". This in spite of the fact that he seems like he's doing this in fulfillment of his school's senior project.
Hope Hicks - Seems nice, innocent. Get out Hope. There is still time. It's like she's the teenage baby sitter not realizing she's in the opening scenes of what will be an R rated horror movie.
Sean Spicer - He's been ridiculed, but I like him. He doesn't seem like a bad guy at all. Saturday Night Live made fun of him unfairly. He was made to go to the press and defend undefendable positions. He doesn't get mentioned much in the book. I think that's because they kept him out of the loop so much. He would just be told to do stuff, like "Go convince the press that we had the biggest crowd of any inauguration in spite of photographic evidence to the contrary."
Kelly Ann Conway - Doesn't have a big part in the book. Seems like a nice, maybe little misguided at times, person.
Reince Priebus - I feel for him. If for no other reason than having to make it through life with the name, Reince Priebus. I think he tried to do a good job. There was just too much craziness for him to function. There was a great story in the book about how he was on Air Force One talking with the President about his possible resignation. "Take your time. Let's do this the right way." After he got off the plane there was a tweet from the President announcing his replacement.
Scaramucci - He was head of communications for about five days. I had forgotten about this guy. He was there long enough to get rid of Sean Spicer, for which Sean should thank him, and then was such a disaster he himself was gone quickly. Comes across as slimy. Very, very slimy.
Bannon - Kind of adorable in a profane, self-righteous way. He seems like a combination of a person on the inside and the old guys in the balcony in The Muppet Show.
People that seem somewhat normal - Pence, Tillerson, the UN person (OK thats the only normal ones I can think of) don't get much of a mention. Maybe that's a sign of their intelligence. They staying clear of Oval Office drama.
This John Kelly has been a bit of a disappointment. He's keeping the drama tamped down. He needs to move on so we can get back to all the Fire and Fury that was so entertaining.
