Abbey Road

I saw Early Man. It was one of those claymation things like Wallace and Grommit and Shawn the Sheep. I love those. Not everyone does apparently, as it turned out to be a private showing for two. Not edgy or gory enough for a big audience I guess. In one of their many, many previews they showed a new Shawn the Sheep movie coming out - Farmeggedon. I will love that and will again probably have my choice of seating.

They had fun songs at the end and in the credits mentioned the recording was done at the Abbey Road Studios. That made me think of my Abbey Road story. Here we go. I was in London one time in my life. I knew the famous crosswalk the Beatles used was on Abbey Road. (Thus, the name of the album.) It took some doing. It turns out London is really, really big and Abbey Road is quite a ways from the touristy parts.

Anyway, found it, and rode one of the red double decker buses to get there. What I didn't know then is apparently the picture happened because Abbey Road Studios is right there (on the left of the picture). They needed an album cover, so they stepped out and had a picture taken of them crossing the street.

I, of course, also crossed the street, doing so impersonating each Beatle. You can do that only so many times before reaching a point of diminishing returns. It was then I saw the studio. The door was ajar. I thought I could walk right in. I didn't. I was afraid I guess. Its a foreign country and all that. I regret that now. What's the worst that could have happened? I don't know, and I guess that is why I didn't do it.

A while ago I thought a good life goal would be to see an ex-Beatle. I had already missed the boat on John and George, but I thought I've still got time to hunt down Paul or Ringo. But they would have to go on tour. I'm pretty sure they don't need the money. It turned out great, though. I saw Paul in Pittsburgh about four years ago and Ringo in Reno last year. I've probably told those stories before, but I need to tell them again. Next time.
