Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins is a fun movie. I knew it was taken from a book. I had never seen a copy of the book until a week ago, so I bought it. I thought this will be fun. It was not fun. It was painful. Mary Poppins - what a jerk. I am so serious. The book version Mary is not the Julie Andrews Mary. Its shocking those little kids didn't give her a spoonful of arsenic (Get it? Clever) when she slept . Or at least short-sheeted her bed. (I do't know what "short-sheeting" even means, but I've heard of it and, whatever it is, book Mary deserves it.)

Julie Andrews is firm with the children, but cares for them. Book Mary is mean. If Hitler became a nanny instead of a dictator, that is Book Mary. I don't know how that became a children's classic. I'm not actually at the end. Maybe there is a happy ending. I have my doubts, though.

You could guess that, I suppose. The author wasn't really a nice person. I had heard those stories about how hard she was to work with. Then there was even a movie about that in which Tom Hanks played Walt Disney (!!!!????) and he had to work with little Miss Supercaligrumpilistic. (Yes, I'm proud of that one.) I'll have to rewatch that movie again. Plus I need to watch the original Mary Poppins just to get the book version out of my head. There is supposedly a new version of Mary coming out at Christmas. I'm sure I'll be let down, because I like the original so much. I need to start lowering my expectations for it now so I can enjoy it for what its worth.
