Yogi

I've been watching Yogi Bear cartoons. I got the complete set for not very much at Wal-Mart. Yogi is hilarious. I forgot how much. They had a live action movie a few years ago. It was fine, only Justin Timberlake was Boo Boo. Why do that? And Dan Akroyd was Yogi. Get people that do impressions for a living and have them do it. When I can picture the person behind the voice, I can't get them out of my head.

Yogi Bear was named after Yogi Berra, the baseball player. He really was a great player, but he was more famous for saying weird stuff. (e.g., "Nobody goes to that restaurant anymore because its so crowded." "If the world was perfect, it wouldn't be." "Pair off in threes." Stuff like that. I think he still has a lot of World Series records. He was in a lot of World Series. In part, because he was good and in part because he had teammates like Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, and Joe DiMaggio.

I guess Berra tried to sue when they stole his name for Yogi Bear. He lost that court case. How do you lose that? I think a lot of the copyright issues are a little much, but this one seemed so obvious. "Yogi Berra - Yogi Bear? Mere coincidence." Same thing with Babe Ruth and the Baby Ruth candy bar. They claimed (and won the case) that the candy bar was not named after the baseball player. A couple of very gullible juries.

Anyway, Yogi Bear is hilarious. So is Boo Boo - even though pretty much Boo Boo's only line was "Yogi, i don't think Ranger Smith would like that." I would have them on while doing other things. There were only about 35 episodes. And at 7 minutes each, it really doesn't take that long to watch them all. They should have good impressionists dressed as Yogi and Boo Boo welcoming guests at Yellowstone. It would be a crowd pleaser. I would love that job. However my impression of Yogi Bear, Richard Nixon, Forrest Gump, and Elvis Presley are all pretty much the same. You have to listen closely to the words I'm saying to really be sure who I'm imitating. "Spiro, go fire bomb Democratic Headquarters." See how easy.

There used to be a lot of just fun cartoon characters in the past. Now, I can't think of any like that anymore. Maybe Sponge Bob, but even he is kind of old school. Where are the future Yogis, Mickeys, Daffys etc going to come from? Just like everything else that is good and wholesome - discarded to the garbage can of history.
