Stuff to Buy

I don't buy a lot of stuff. All my life I thought of myself as cheap. I'm reconsidering that. Maybe I don't spend a lot because most things don't interest me. I used to think my big three were CD's, DVD's, and books. I have Spotify and Netflix now, so I don't really buy many of the first two. I still love to buy books, but I read slow enough that I stay well within my budget.

I would love to be able to speed read. I've always heard stories about that. But lately I heard that all is a lot of malarky (excuse my language). Those people that say they read 2,000 words a minute. They've been lying to us. You can't read that fast. Nobody can. At least that is what I read. But ironically, I could have just skimmed the article and didn't really get it. But I think that sounds right. If people could read 2,000 words a minute I would think I would have met a few of them. Maybe sitting in a library with a stack of books next to them. Or maybe they "read" that fast, but don't know what they're really reading. As Woody Allen once said, "I took a speed reading class and read War and Peace in two days. It was something about Russia."

Lately I've been reading several books at once. A really bad idea. But I can't help it. I see something cool and I start it. I read Jimmy Carter's book about looking back on his life. It was good and not too long. A great man. Kind of a so-so president, but a great man.

I started a book by Al Michael's book. He is a sports announcer who might not be a household name, but he's done a million things - Super Bowls, Monday Night Football, and he did the hockey game when the US team beat the Russians.

I read a lot of comedian Martin Short's book. Ed Grimley - one of my favorite characters ever, I must say. The Three Amigos - funniest movie ever. The book was funny, but he cusses in it and I quit. I just can't read that. I hate giving up on books, but I do sometimes.

Other books I'm currently reading or recently read? I really can't remember. That's how out of control I've gotten. Maybe I'll figure that they are and continue this next time.
