Presidential Politics

I've always liked presidential stuff. Not current things as much as the history of it. Although I guess the current stuff becomes history in due time. I went back to Ohio recently mostly to see presidential stuff. I see president's graves, homes, museums... it's all cool to me.

So the Trump administration is interesting to me I guess in that it will at some point be presidential history. I remember a Simpsons episode in which they talked about retiring words. One was "Nixonian". Not true. I've heard the word "Nixonian" quite a bit the past few months. Somebody was saying the best analogy was to John Tyler or Andrew Johnson. Whoever said that may be on to something. They both were kind of cantankerous, stick-to-your-guns-no-matter-what kind of people. Tyler became president when William Henry Harrison died. He was the first VP to become president. Even his own party kind of treated him as a pretend president. And Johnson was kind of hard to like anyway. And when you have to be the guy to following Lincoln, it makes it pretty tough.

Anyway, the Trump cabinet. A lot of these people are hard to like. Lets start with those. That Scaramouchi guy. The only good thing about him is that he acted like a jerk and there was a backlash. A lot of times nowadays people act like jerks and they get their own reality show. Zing. I know an attitude like that probably dates me. That and the use of the word "nowadays".

The Trump boys are hard for me to deal with. They've run businesses and think that translates to, "Let's help Dad run the country." The Trump ladies are great. Best first lady ever. Kind of the opposite of Eleanor Roosevelt in every way. I'm fine with that. Ivanka seems pretty level headed and has her stuff together. She won't be able to control her father-in-law very well, but maybe just enough. The blonde haired daughter whose name I don't remember - I like her too. She doesn't try to get in over her head. Her purpose seems to be, "Leave me alone. I just want to spend Daddy's money." I'm fine with that philosophy.

I liked the FBI guy that got fired. The secretary of state seems really good - better than I thought he would be. I really like our U.N. person, Nikki Haley. She might be the best and brightest of the bunch. I liked Sean Spicer. He was put in an impossible position of having to defend things that were indefensible. The VP, Pence, seems pretty smart. Same thing with Reince Priebus. If nothing else, cut him some slack making it through life with the name Reince Priebus.

Some of the others seem like cool guys, but I'm not sure how much the bring to the table. Att General Sessions, Ben Carson, Rick Perry - seem more likable than competent. But they've got three and a half years to right the ship. Plenty of time.
