I worked my Ohio trip around a couple games. I saw a game at Cleveland and then a game at Detroit. Detroit is not nearly as good this year, but this was a great game. First of all, Justin Verlander was pitching for Detroit - one of the best over the past 10 years or so. And the game itself went extra innings. So a good game to see.
The stadium itself was fun. It is in a not especially great section of town. I'm not sure that Detroit actually has a great section of town. This is called Comerica Park. I'm sure that is the name of some company that gave them a bunch of money. Their previous stadium was called Tiger Stadium. That makes sense as they are the Detroit Tigers, however tigers don't have a lot of money to donate. I actually saw a game in the old Tiger stadium. It really was old with metal walkways and metal seats. I remember thinking "I'm looking at the outfield where Ty Cobb used to play". Its like seeing history.
They had a statue of Ty in the stadium, along with other Tiger greats. One was Al Kaline and we sat in a section called Kaline's corner.
Anyway, it was an extra inning game. It went 13 innings, which I think is the longest game I've seen in person. The Tigers lost, but that's fine. I didn't really have any skin in the game. (One of many expressions I use without really knowing what it means.)
I made a big mistake in buying a Detroit Tiger hat there - $26. I got my Cleveland Indian hat at Big 5 Sports - $7. Oh well.
