Tom Brady

OK, fine. Tom Brady is a god. The best ever. Never in the history of football or any sport as anyone been better.

That seems to be the consensus. I won't debate it any longer. However, let me just have a few final thoughts on the subject.

  1. Brady is 5 and 2 in Super Bowls. This one and the Seattle Super Bowl had miracle finishes. In both of them if the opposing team chose to run the football instead of pass, New England probably loses both of them. Now he's 3 and 4. Not quite as impressive. And those other three we close ones. With some bad luck, OK a lot of bad luck, he could be 0 and 7.
  2. What if he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns out of college? Does he lead the Browns to seven Super Bowls? I don't think so. New England has had one great coach in that entire time. Cleveland has had probably a dozen - none of them considered great.
  3. His stats are good, but the best ever? He and Drew Brees are almost identical.
  4. Back in the 20th century, passing was harder. You had to just about knife a person to get pass interference called. Almost no QB completed 60% of his passes. Now less than 60% is considered bad.
  5. There is a bias toward people that win Super Bowls. There have been a number of so-so quarterbacks that have been on Super Bowl winning teams that get a lot more notoriety than they deserve. Joe Namath is super famous for winning and is in the hall of fame. He was not good. Most years he didn't even complete half his passes. He had more interceptions than touchdowns. Way more.
  6. How about Sammy Baugh? I never saw him play, but I hear he was good. Have you ever seen what the ball was like then? It looked more like a volleyball. Try throwing that thing Tom.
Its not that I have something against Brady. I just don't like the idea that you can decided the greatest of all time. But I surrender to the masses. Tom, you're the best.

Now, more importantly. Remember I pre-played the game on my Wii. Actual game: New England 34 to 28. My Wii game: New England 38 to 31. Not bad.
