Seahawks are out of the playoffs. I have been been a loyal Seahawk forever. The only NFL game I ever saw was a Seattle game. However, I done with them. No, not just because they lost. They maybe aren't quite as good as they were a couple years ago, but that's not why I'm jumping ship. I've been with them through plenty of lean years.
These guys are jerks. I can live with people that are very occasionally jerks. These guys are there consistently.
So they lost this weekend. After the game, one of their players, Michael Bennett, was getting upset at an interviewer. He was using bad language and yelling at him. At one point he asked him, "What kind of adversity did you ever go through?" (It turns out the reporter has had cancer.)
Some have tried to justify it as he was upset after the game. I kind of get that. I'm a little surprised this kind of thing doesn't happen more often. The fact is, it doesn't. Almost all of the players interviewed after games are respectful, win or lose. Not Bennett.
He's not the only Seahawk I have a problem with. There are plenty of examples of them losing their cool on the sideline this season.
And then there is Richard Sherman. I won't even go there. But I'm done with rooting for Seattle. Loyalty is important to me, but I'm cutting my ties with them. That isn't an easy decision for me. I have a windbreaker and a sweatshirt with the Seattle logo on them. What am I supposed to do with them? Oh well. I got one of them from when I got a subscription from Sports Illustrated. By the way I'm done with them, too. Before the Olympics they decided to put a former Olympian on the cover. Of all they could have gone with, they chose the former Bruce Jenner. Goodbye SI.
I did this once before, ditching the Trailblazers. It was during their period the came to be known as the "Jailblazers". I'm back with them know, but I was in the wilderness for several years. Being a good athlete is fine, but being a good person is more important.
Next year I'll be rooting for the Titans. Good people, not a good team. That is fine with me.
