La Brea Tar Pits

The LaBrea Tar Pits. This was not my first choice of things to visit in Southern California. However, I bent to peer pressure and went. It seemed to me that it would just be a tar pit in LaBrea. Thus the name. But I've heard of it for years, so there must be something more to it than that. It turns out it is just a tar pit in LaBrea. There is an associated museum there. I really wasn't interested in that. It has dinosaur bones collected from the tar pit. It cost $16 to see them, so I passed. I had already spent $12 to be able to park in their parking lot.

It was kind of interesting and now I can say I've seen it. It isn't very big. Maybe 30 yards long and 10 yards wide, right in the middle of L.A. It looks like a black, oily lake. Occasionally some greenish, blackish ooze would bubble up. That was cool. What really would have been cool is a creature from the black lagoon thing coming up from the pit. That would have really been something. Paying someone to put on a frogman's suit and periodically coming up from there would boost tourism. I should be in charge of marketing for them.

We also saw the building featured on the show Scorpion. Its in a fairly seedy part of L.A. I've never seen that show. This is what the building really looked like. Usually my pictures on the blog are ones I've taken. I did take a picture a lot like this, but this one is from the internet. That is because my computer is on life support, so I don't want to hook my camera up to it. It may be too much for it too handle. While I'm at it, just to be clear, the previous picture of a dinosaur is not one at the LaBrea Tar Pits.

I did not have high hopes for either of these, so my expectation level was down. That is a good way to handle life in general. It ended up being a fun day, matching my expectations perfectly.
