I always have layers of goals for any race. They're pretty modest for this race.
- First, finish. Not a sure thing. Going into the race feeling confident of this is not for me. Knowing I'll be able to handle it is not enough of a challenge. When failure is a distinct possibility keeps things interesting.
- Second, don't walk. They'll have water stops along the way. I used to either skip those to save time or take a cup and drink it without slowing down. That's not easy. Now, I'll be stopping and have having a leisurely drink or two. These stops will not count against my "Don't walk" goal.
- Third. Run no more that twice the pace when I was in my prime. So a marathon at 2:40 in my prime now translates to a 2:40 half-marathon.
- Fourth. Break 2:30.
I think it is possible I make all the goals, but it is possible I won't. Regardless, it will be fun scenery. We run along the wharf, then over the Golden Gate Bridge, loop someplace on the other side, back across the G.G. Bridge, and back to the wharf. I'll be going slow enough to really enjoy the scenery.
In other news, World Series game 7 tonight. I started listening to some of the commentators and their predictions. Then I quit. They don't know. It will be decided because a pitcher threw a pitch two inches away from where he wanted to and ends up being a home run. I'm pulling for the Cubs because they have been grieving for so long, yet (unlike Boston) in a non-whining way.
Finally, today I'm done binging The Partridge Family. That is if it is considered binging when it takes you a couple months to get through it. A fine little show. Shows were better back then. They were simpler and not as well done, but I'm fine with that. Shows now have to be edgy and/or try teach you to be more socially aware. Their them song on the show was "C'mon Get Happy". That wouldn't fly today. I'd rather watch a show where the Partridges have to conserve energy because Danny misread the meter (actually episode).
