Battle of the Bees

I'm having a new fence put in at my house. Some would do that themselves. If I tried that, a picture of it would end up in one of those Fail books. It did save money if I took out the old fence rather than have them do it. I can't build things, but I'm pretty good at destroying them, so it was right up my alley. It wasn't easy, though. It took me and another person four hours. I'm not sure what they look like, but I might have gotten a blister along the way.

One thing I had to do is get rid of some boards behind a shed. I don't normally go back there. It turns there were a million bees or wasps or something. There was a tiny hole in the ground they were going in and coming out of. I'm not sure what there were doing. Their whole reason for living seemed to be to just fly around and go in and out of the hole.

There really weren't a million, but I bet there were fifty. The fence people were coming out in a few days, so I knew I had to get rid of them. I figured I would have to call an exterminator. (That would be a good name for a movie, "The Exterminator".) I had the bright idea of looking on-line first to see if I could avoid that. I found something that I didn't think would work, but it did!!!!

  1. Wait until night when they're asleep. (I didn't know they slept, but apparently they do as it was completely quiet at 9:00 p.m.)
  2. Pour dish washing liquid down the hole. I used a whole bottle. They said those underground wasp homes can be huge. I guess so. I emptied a whole bottle in it.
  3. I also spread in a can some wasp killing foam I had gotten for $4. Again, it didn't overflow.
  4. Use a hose to flood it with water.
  5. Next day, if they seem gone, cover it with dirt.
Worked like a charm. I don't know what an exterminator costs, but I'm sure it is more than $4. And I got a real sense of accomplishment and power by killing all those bees.

I didn't mention that while earlier spraying them with Raid (which did nothing) one of them bit me. On-line they said they can bite and/or sting. I'm pretty sure it was a bite. It hurt. Real bad. My hand got red in that area. I Googled that, too, just to make sure I didn't need to go to the hospital. It said grow up and don't be a baby, so I figured I was fine.

Anyway, that was my big bee adventure. Other news of the week - my fantasy baseball team is in the playoffs. Today is the final day of the first round. I've been in the lead most of the last 13 days of this round. Today I'm still ahead in 6 of the 10 categories. If I can hang on, I'm in the championship game. I don't know if I could handle losing and a bee attack both in the same week.
