Bookstores

I was at Barnes and Noble today. I wasn't sure if I would get anything. I just like being in bookstores whenever I can. I figure they'll be extinct soon. Dodo birds, cassette tapes, and bookstores will be answers to trivia questions at some point. For now I get there when I can. The bookstore in my town closed several years ago. When I heard it was closing I honestly instantly thought, "I have to move". I haven't yet. I guess whats holding me back is that they will probably be obsolete everywhere soon.

Even the bookstores aren't really just bookstores anymore. To stay open, they have to sell books, games, coffee, and CDs. Go in a library sometime and see how many people are looking at or for a book. They're at the magazines or the computers or reading the newspapers. Whatever. Its fine, I just don't like it that books are going away. Speaking of CDs, they're going away, too. One big store in town that had a big CD section that has gotten smaller and smaller and I just recently realized doesn't even exist now. I think DVDs are probably next to go, but I think it will be awhile for them.

These things are being replaced by anything real. Its all digital stuff that is...well, I don't really know what it is. Suspended in the ether are these books, movies, and music that if you have the right receiving device, you can get. Its like when they would beam people up on Star Trek. We can't do it with people yet, but maybe we're getting close. That will actually be OK, though.

So I was going to write about what I bought at B&N today, but I got sidetracked. I probably should read it first anyway before I start talking about it.
