What is the deal with jeans? Why do people like them so much? If people get a day to wear them to work, its like they died and went to heaven. I'm not seeing it myself. Have you felt them? On the softness scale, they're like a step above burlap. Of any type of pants that I own, I would consider jeans the most uncomfortable. Dress pants are usually a nice, soft material. Sweats are comfortable. Shorts are good. Where would you rank jeans, other than at the bottom? No pun intended. By the way, whenever I hear the phrase "no pun intended", its not funny. Its not even clever. Lets just stop using it OK?
I suppose on the rare occasion that I am going to rustle up a herd of cattle, jeans might be my choice. They would offer more protection from thistles and sagebrush and such as I'm riding the range. Otherwise, unnecessary.
I saw a guy in a restaurant a couple days ago. He was about twenty years old I suppose. He had jeans, a big old belt buckle, and a cowboy hat. He was decked out. That is fine for him. I believe that is who jeans were originally meant for. How did it come about that the rest of society felt that was a look they wanted to copy? "I aspire to be a cowpoke, so I think I'll wear jeans to work." You're not a cowpoke (not sure what that is, exactly) put on some real pants and get to work.
A couple other things that trouble me. We don't seem to call them blue jeans anymore. Just jeans. I guess because since they all seem to be the color blue, it was kind of unnecessary to say that. Just like we don't say, "I think I'll get me some yellow bananas and orange oranges today."
And why plural? A pair of jeans? For that matter why a pair of pants? I'm a little low on cash today. I was going to buy some pants, but I only have enough for one single pant. And I think I'll make it a jean.
Are there places where jeans are inappropriate anymore? They seem to be accepted in most any job, church, weddings, funerals... places that I think just a few years ago, it wouldn't have been considered OK.
Well, there are my views on jeans. You wouldn't have thought I could have gotten a whole blog on that topic, but I did. My day is complete.
