Middle of the Road

Middle of the road is a good place to be. I don't like extremes. I don't know who I'm going to vote for, but it probably won't be Trump or Clinton. Whoever is in the middle will be my person. Just run the country. Don't come in with a bunch of plans of things you're going to do. Millard Fillmore would be a good guy. All those presidents that were just kind of caretakers - Fillmore, Buchanan, basically anyone between Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln. That is who we need.

I'm thinking about this middle of the road topic because I was thinking about optimists and pessimists today. Neither extreme is to my liking. I heard some weather expert today saying that the drought isn't over. Things are still bad. He said we'll need three or four winters like this just to catch up. Why don't you just cool your jets, bucko? I've had snow up to my knees in my yard for like a month now. Maybe he is a meteorologist, but maybe he's also just a pessimist. I'm no expert, but I'm declaring - drought over. Let's find something else to talk about now. The drought topic has run its course. Some people just love finding bad news to talk about.

On the other hand, people that are extreme optimists aren't my cup of tea either. "Oh, it'll all work out." OK, little merry sunshine. You live in that world. I'll live in one closer to reality.

When I was in Kentucky I would sometimes drive past something called Optimist Lake. I'm serious. I always assumed it was half full. Get it? Half full rather than half empty. I thought I was quite witty with that. I never told anyone my little joke. I just had a gut feeling that I would be the only one that would think that was amusing. I'm kind of proud of it, but I just know that nobody else would be.
