Time Magazine had a review of 2015 in their latest issue. It left me depressed, because it gave me the feeling that perhaps contemporary culture has passed me by. Let's review.
10 Best Movies Had not even heard of any of top 8. Spotlight, Phoenix, Clouds of Sils Maria,... What? I heard of the last two on their list, but didn't see them.
10 Worst Movies I saw several of those. And liked them. Fantastic Four gets a 4 on a scale of 1 to 10 and was not fantastic, but it wasn't terrible. Jupiter Ascending also not great. I thought Hot Pursuit was great. A Walk in the Woods was OK. And Minions made their list! CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION! Alright, I'm fine now. But seriously, Minions was adorable.
10 Best TV Shows I heard of 4 of these and I watched Fargo. Fargo is a little violent. There are parts I don't even watch. Fargo is set in a desolate area with nothing to do. It feels like home.
10 Best Fiction and 10 Best Non-Fiction Books - I had heard of two and actually read one of them.
10 Best Albums - Miguel, Sleater-Kinney, Kendrick Lamar, Kacey Musgraves, Mijay Iyer Trio, Jamie XX,... - Who are these people? I don't recognize these names. I knew one - Carly Rae Jepsen. I love her, but that is all I even know. Songs of the year was the same thing - Nine unknown names and Adele.
Even when I make an attempt to get caught back up it will be with folks like Colbie Callait or Jack Johnson who I later find out were at their peaks a decade or so ago.
Maybe some people I know will make comebacks in 2016. I think the kids will start groovin on Neil Diamond again.
