Gun Control

I give almost no thought to gun control. I guess I probably should. So here is possibly my lone time of blogging about it.

First, I'm not sure what people get so excited about. I never hear even the most radical gun controllers take about getting rid of the second amendment or banning all guns. I'm sure there are those like that, but not that I hear.

Pro gun control: The best pro control argument I think was by Homer Simpson. He tried to buy a gun on the show, but said he would have to wait three days. "Three days! But I'm mad now!" Anybody that needs a gun immediately probably shouldn't have one. So I'm all for making people wait a little bit.

Anti-gun control: I've never liked "If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns." It seems kind of silly and simplistic, but I though about that in terms of illegal drugs. A lot of drugs are illegal. How is that working? Drugs are everywhere. Anyone that wants drugs can get them. All it takes is money. Not that I go in for such silliness, but I'm sure I could get drugs if I worked a little at it and had sufficient money.

So what is is going to do if guns are made illegal? The price for them will actually go up and there will be storehouses of them ready to sell. There is already a black market for guns. It'll will just get blacker.

So as with most politicians, all I come up with is what not to do. Not what to do. Maybe there really is nothing to do. Most of the publicity is about the mass shootings, but most of the deaths are from one one one murders and suicides. Unless we can find a way to get people from wanting to kill themselves or others, I don't think this is going away.
