I'm worried I'm drifting toward being a tea partier or something. I was looking at a newspaper and for a bunch of the stuff I read, my reaction is probably what a tea party member might have. For example:
1. Princeton students took over the President's office to protest that things on campus were named for a past Princeton (and U.S.) President, Woodrow Wilson.
First of all, go back to class, hippies. The 60's are over. Wilson was a little racist, I'll admit. He thought segregation was fine. He like the movie Birth of a Nation. I've seen that movie. It's so racist, it looks like a comedy. In spite of this, get over yourselves, "students". At that time, segregation was viewed a little differently. Even the Supreme Court had said it was OK. This is like these people that want to vilify people like Robert E. Lee. If we're going down that road, do we have to take Washington, Jefferson, Jackson, etc off our money? Even Lincoln didn't like slavery, but had some unenlightened views about the Negroes.
A hundred years from now let's suppose that its pretty much unanimous that abortion is murder. Are we going to look back on all the people previous to that time as murderers? That seems too harsh. You have to judge people by the time they live in. Sometimes people and even generations just get some stuff wrong.
2. Someone that was in jail for "life" was getting let out of prison. I think that is one reason some people support the death penalty. If people knew the very worst criminals were going to be put away for good, they might lighten up on the death penalty.
3. Letting in refugees. We're a nation of immigrants. Yes I know. Actually we've had lots of cases in our past in which we haven't been all that welcoming, but generally we've been fairly welcoming. But it certainly would be OK to at least take a time-out from bringing in immigrants. The ISIS folks are clearly stepping things up now. It would be fine to not take anybody in for a few months for the sake of our safety. I like the President OK, but he's being a little weak here. I know George W wasn't perfect, but he would have had a more active response. Wait a minute, forget George. Let's get Dick Nixon back on the job. He would take care of things.
So, I think I'm a little right of center. I must be, because an internet quiz told me I was. Now I'm feeling far right. But I think I'm OK. I listened to Mark Levin on the radio yesterday and he still sounded like a crazed lunatic, so I guess I'm probably OK.
