Giving up

I surrender, Pete. You are such a jerk. I've tried my best to get you into the hall of fame, but you just aren't helping me out. You are the all-time leader in games, wins, and hits. What other statistics do you have? How about betting $2,000 dollars a game and usually 10 games a day; owing one guy $200,000; having total debts of about a half a million dollars. And top that all off with being a terrible husband (divorces), father (Pete Jr. sold steroids to players), and citizen (tax evasion). You suck Pete.

So no hall of fame. I would be especially fine with all this if they also got rid of Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, Palmeiro, Clemens, Rodriguez, and Braun. They keep talking about betting on baseball being the big sin. Its cheating on baseball that is bad. Betting is only bad because its assumed that could lead to cheating. Those guy skipped over the betting and went straight to cheating. The Black Sox scandal wasn't players betting on baseball. It was players who got paid by gamblers to lose World Series games on purpose.

Pete, you're benched from my heart. While I'm at it, I'm not rooting for anyone anymore. I don't have a team I really care about in baseball. I would kind of like the Cubs to win, so they could stop whining, but we all know that isn't going to happen. In football, my Seahawks have won. They crushed my spirit with a last second loss last year. That happened only because I was greedy and wanted an second win, so the football gods needed to teach me a lesson. In basketball, the Trailblazers have a championship. I need to be content with the one, even though it was a million years ago. Oregon Ducks have had their chance in a couple of championship games and have ripped my heart out twice now. No more. I will be content with enjoying the early season drubbings of the community college teams they schedule and after that I'm not watching any more games.

I can get on with my life now.
