Two weeks from today I going to New York City for six days. I was there once for one day. It seemed like we crammed a lot in that day, but bet I missed some stuff. I'm starting to get a little apprehensive. Once I get there I'll be fine, but until then there is quite a list of what can go wrong. Getting to the airport, getting the right flight, lost luggage, getting from the NY airport to the hotel. I'm assuming the subway will magically do that, but who knows? Some website had a list of the ten safest cities in the U.S. and New York was on it. Really? Are there maybe two New York Cities? I'll be going to touristy places and they'll probably be fine, but getting mugged is on my concern list anyway. Is getting mugged still a phrase people use? I used to hear it. In fact when I did hear it, it always seemed to be in connection with New York City. But I've gotten pretty good at repressing negative thoughts, so I'll just go with the idea that everything is going to work out fine.
And by "work out fine" I mean achieving my number one goal for the trip - getting to see Al Roker and Matt Lauer in person. When they do their thing on the plaza, I'll be there at least one day, maybe two, maybe every day. I don't have to be on TV, I just want to see them. They both seem like great guys. Al has always seemed interested on what is going in my neck of the woods, so I feel like we have something of a bond already.
Also, I got a deal on Yankee tickets. Fifteen dollars for a pair of tickets. Seriously. They are playing the Tampa Bay Rays. They used to be called the Devil Rays. I guess they dropped part of the name because of the satanic link, even though its just a name. Dumb. Do we have to change Devil's Food Cake to Food Cake? I don't know. I'm not up on a lot of the players, but the Rays do have a player with one of the best names in baseball - Evan Longoria. I notice on their roster they have a pitcher named Grant Balfour. Balfour is really an unfortunate name for a pitcher, but it is what it is. These are not or father's Yankees or your grandfather's Yankees. The only big name they have is Alex Rodriguez. I can't wait to boo him. I'll have to check the climate of the people around me. I don't want to get beat up. But even if I boo softly and I kind of do it to myself, he's getting booed.
So when the time comes, I'll be blogging it up with my NY adventures. Even losing luggage and getting beat up would be something of an adventure, so its all good.
