First of all, go KC Royals. Why?
1. I like their uniforms. A lovely baby blue shade that is quite attractive. I know that makes me sound a little feminine, but I do like them.
2. I like their stadium. I've been in it once and its nice.
3. If they win, it will be the biggest thing since the Mets in '69. The Mets were the worst team in baseball for their first decade of existence. No one else was close. They lost a still record 120 games in their first year. Then in 1969, they came from nowhere to overtake the Cubs and go to the playoffs and then win the World Series. They had at the time, unknowns like Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, and Tug McGraw (Tim's father) that became big names as their careers progressed, but at the time they weren't household names. A Royals win maybe wouldn't be that big, but close.
4. San Francisco has won enough lately.
5. I still resent SF fans for embracing the swelled-headed (literally and figuratively), steroidal Barry Bonds.
Anyway, e-mails. I was thinking about the World Series and a baseball-related e-mail. A writer for AP wrote a baseball opinion piece that I really liked. A lot of times they'll put the writer's contact information at the end. I thought, "I'll write him and tell him how much I'll liked it." I did and he wrote me back. That was fun.
I also wrote to a guy at NASA yesterday. I'm trying to write a book. Seriously, I can't say anything more about it, because I can't have anyone stealing my idea and I might fail which would be embarrassing. So that's all I can tell you. Anyway, I had a NASA related question. I wrote him and am awaiting his reply with bated breath (whatever that may mean).
I wrote to the John/John Quincy Adams Historical Site in Boston. I'm going to be there at some point. So I wrote them with a question I had and they wrote me back.
I know none of these are hugely famous people, but its kind of fun writing to somewhat important people and having them write back.
