Don Zimmer

Don Zimmer passed away last week. He was a baseball player. Most people would know his as a manager or coach. When I was a kid, my aunt gave me something to drink in a Don Zimmer glass. It had his statistics and a picture etched onto the glass. I thought it was great she had it. I think she had it for quite a while and I'm pretty sure she had no idea who he was. Although it pretty much had no worth to her, I was excited when she let me keep it. I had it for a long time, but I don't know where it is now. It would probably be worth a lot right now. That's why things are worth a lot. It becomes rare because even when you think you are going to hang on to something rare, somebody else decides to get rid of it.

I had a bunch of baseball and football cards that I sold for $300. It seems like a lot, but I probably could have gotten more for them. I still have a few. I have a rookie O.J. Simpson card that has to be worth a lot. I also have an Al Cowlings card - Al was the guy that drove the white Bronco. I bet I could get a lot for the two cards as a set. I need to look and see if I have those cards even. Some scoundrel might have gotten rid of them, too.

I had tickets to see Paul McCartney in Louisville. I just found out they moved the date forward a couple months to a time when I won't be in the area. It would be hard to over estimate my disappointment at this development. There are supposed to be like five stages of grief. I think I'm in all of them concomitantly. You've disappointed me Paul, but I'll regroup and find a way to see you. You say goodbye, but I say hello.
