Nothing huge happened today, but I'll tell you all about it anyway. First it was to Pineville where they have the Mountain Laurel Festival. I think that's what it's called. They have a lot of these weekend festivals in the South. They attract a ton of people. They're like street fairs. This one had a parade. It had the usual. It lead off with about 15 police cars all with sirens going. Not sure of the point of that, but it gets your attention. It had a guy on stilts juggling bowling pins - always a crowd pleaser. The highlight was Mitch McConnell. He was driven in a car with his team, a.k.a. Team Mitch. He's the top Republican in the Senate and it was cool to see him. (By the way, last week I shook hands with someone who once shook hands with Richard Nixon.) He was waving to everyone. I waved at him and he looked right at me and waved back. Right at me, I tell you. He's dreamy. I went online to fine a good Mitch picture. I wasn't planning on this one, but it is an uncanny licence. Mitch is the one on the right.
Also in the parade was Jimmy Rose. He's a Pineville native and had come in third place on America's Got Talent. His big song is "Coal Keeps the Lights On." Coal is still a pretty big employer here, but nothing like it used to be. Its seems to be pretty much unanimous here that President Obama is to blame for this (plus everything else bad that ever happens).
Then off to Corbin. Not a huge town, but it has three great things going for it. It has a book store, a good music store, and the first Kentucky Fried Chicken establishment. Three things I love and are very rare.
Then to London, KY which is about 10 miles up the road. It has Flea Land which is a huge indoor flea market. It has a million items. 90 % of them has some relation to NASCAR, but that still leaves a lot of other stuff to buy.
