I'm sitting in the closest McDonald's to where I live. Its 33 miles away. It's political season here with lots of local people running for positions. Some, like county jailor, I'm not used to being elected positions. An older guy here in McDonald's is running for something and said his campaign was that everyone will get blacktop and a box of cheese. I don't quite get that, but OK, he's got my vote.
The state is in mourning since our beloved Wildcats lost in the NCAA Championship game. Everyone admits we got farther than anyone expected. We were behind in every game of the tournament and had big rallies and last second shots to advance. Very exciting. We just couldn't pull of the last one. Everyone is proud of the team, but it would have been fun to win that last one. The Kentucky t-shirt industry would have boomed with all the shirts that would have extolled the 9th Kentucky basketball championship. Most have moved on and are already talking about what players will be back and which will go to the NBA. Coach Cal said he's coming back, and that's the main thing.
I'm disappointed, but at least not suicidal like some are. I've learned to live with loss. Its far easier to lose in an earlier round than to lose in a championship game. My record there is one of heartbreaks. Of my teams that I really wanted to win, my record is disappointing: NBA Finals - 1 win, 2 losses. Superbowl - 1 win, 4 losses (way to go Seahawks) NCAA Football - 0 wins, 1 loss, NCAA Basketball - 0 wins, 1 loss, World Series - 3 wins, 2 losses (not bad). Overall 5 wins, 10 losses. Maybe I should start rooting for teams like the San Diego Padres or Detroit Lions - teams that never have to worry about championship game losses.
