University of Kentucky got by Louisville last night. Talk of the game has been the center of the universe the past week in Kentucky. When the bracket first came out, people were talking about the fact that Louisville could possibly play UK if they each advanced far enough. That is exactly what happened. They colleges are about an hour apart. In spite of that, if you go into any Wal-Mart in eastern Kentucky there will be five thousand pieces of UK apparel and absolutely no Louisville. The apparel section is a sea of blue. Another clue about the extent of the rivalry - Apparently when they faced each other in the tournament a couple years ago, a fight broke out in a dialysis clinic over the game. This has all seemed a little much, but someone told me that a part of the hatred of Louisville is that their coach, Rick Pitino, used to coach at UK, even won a national championship, then moved to Louisville. In UK's fans mind, he is in a dead heat with Benedict Arnold. Another thing that heightens a rivalry is that fact that UK was the national champs in 2012 and Louisville in 2013. Anyway, its quite the rivalry. Very intense.
Next up is Michigan. I'm trying to not get my hopes up, but its getting tougher now. We're in the Elite 8 and every team that is left is extremely good. Mathematically, we've got a 12.5% chance of winning it all. But what if we did? That following my little Seahawks Super Bowl win? Then next year, Oregon Ducks win football!!! Sell my clothes, I'm going to heaven.
