Mountain Dew II

Speaking of Mountain Dew - I don't remember how this came about, but when I was a kid, we had a Mountain Dew Club. We all liked Mountain Dew and decided to form a club. It sounds like a bad episode of the Andy Griffith Show. (Hey Opie, you like Mountain Dew, too?) Anyway, I was the vice-president. I don't remember what we did, although I know we did meet several times. I don't think we even drank Mountain Dew at the meetings because our parents always gave us Kool Aide. One of the moms was anti sugar. She always gave us unsweetened Kool Aide and wouldn't add sugar. Not good.

Anyway, it was a big responsibility, being only a heartbeat away from the presidency of the Mountain Dew Club. That was my first elective office. As I recall, I was also the vice president of our 6th grade class. All I can remember of that is that I had to lead a meeting to set up for the class Valentine's Day party. Such responsibility at such a tender age.

For a time I lived in Malin, Oregon. I think it had a couple hundred people in it. I thought, "I should run for mayor here." I wouldn't need that many votes and that would be something cool to actually be a mayor of a city. I even had my campaign slogan picked out - "Ich ben ein Maliner." It was a line that worked well for Kennedy and I figured it would propel me into the mayorship.  I ended up not running and forever changing the course of history.
