Revolutionary War Battles

I visited three Revolutionary War sites in one day. What a great day. The Battle of Cowpens, King's Mountain, and Guilford Courthouse. I think Cowpens was basically a tie. The British were marching toward lines of colonists. The colonist strategy was fire a volley and then retreat. The colonists finally retreated, but it wasn't a rout. Since they were getting routed on a regular basis, this was an OK result for them.

King's Mountain was interesting. The British were on a hill and surrounded. Its pictured below. Usually when one side has the high ground, they can hold off the opposition. Not this time, though. They ended up pretty much all being killed or captured. Big win for the colonists.

At Guilford Courthouse the colonists used basically the same strategy as at Cowpens. This time it didn't go as well. However, Cornwallis lost about a quarter of his troops to gain the victory. He decided to leave the Carolinas and went to Yorktown to regroup. Wah-wah.

Those Carolina battles don't get the same notoriety as the ones up north. Everyone seems to know about Bunker Hill, crossing the Delaware, Valley Forge, etc. In the second half of the war, England switched to a southern campaign, which was the beginning of the end for them. Those Carolina battles need a better PR guy. Luckily we came out well in those battles. If not, we would probably all be speaking English now. Rimshot.
