North Carolina Authors

So I made it through the Appalachians and come to an area with several famous authors. I was quite surprised at that. O. Henry and Thomas Wolfe both lived and were buried in Asheville. I've read several O. Henry stories and really like him. I don't really know what Thomas Wolfe did. However, I recognize his name and that in itself probably means he's a pretty famous author.

Another literary tie-in is The Hunger Games. The movie was filmed in the woods outside of Asheville. Asheville has a cool bookstore called Malaprops. They said Jennifer Lawrence used to hang out there when she wasn't filming.

Just a little south of Asheville is the house of Carl Sandburg. Its a nice place out in the woods. It sits up on a hill overlooking a lake. It reminded me of the lake Andy and Opie used to fish at. They had a parking lot, but then you had to hike up a hill to get to his house. It was surprising how many people were there visiting it. I guess he was more popular than I thought. I read a little bit of his poetry at the gift shop there. I don't get poetry. I don't care what the eggheads say - poetry has to rhyme. Also, it helps if its funny. Limericks are good. I think Carl would have even more popular if he did some limericks.
