Never heard of Congaree National Park? Neither had I. It's in the middle of South Carolina. Its only been around for about 20 years and is never going to rival the big national parks, but it's an interesting place. There are boardwalks that go through the park. There is so much swampland around that, at least at this time of year, you couldn't really hike other than on the boardwalks. It reminded me of what the everglades must look like. They had signs up warning of cougars, alligators, etc. Yikes! Luckily, there were none of those to be found. I think I would get bored trying to spend a lot of time here, but the hour or two I was there was very interesting.

This area I guess would be known as "wetlands". As George Carlin once said, "We now have rain forests and wetlands, because they found that no one would donate money to save jungles and swamps." So this place probably would have been a swamp a few years ago. Congratulations on being upgraded to wetland. I saw George Carlin when I was in college. I've never been crazy about him, but I remember certain times in the concert when my stomach hurt from laughing so much. He just had weird, funny thoughts a lot. Such as, "The day after tomorrow is the third day of the rest of your life" or "George Washington's brother was the uncle of our country." Excellent work, George.
