Happy Kwanzaa

Today is the start of Kwanzaa. I've decided to celebrate Kwanzaa this year instead of figuratively rolling my eyes whenever it comes up as has been my past practice. Online it said that Kwanzaa doesn't have to replace Christmas or any other holiday. So here we go. For the next few days I thought I should chose a new name. To do so, I thought I would select two African countries as my new name. So for a few days, I'll be giving up my slave name and going with Chad Zimbabwe. I don't know exactly what to do during this holiday. It seems fairly ill-defined from my online research. Granted I just kind of scanned a couple of sites, but drums and libations seem to be an important part. For libations I'm going with Diet Pepsi and for drums, I'll come up with something. There has to be more to this holiday. No wonder it hasn't caught on.

OK, I realized my knowledge is so pitiful I had to stop blogging and go online to find out some more stuff. It turns out it was started in 1966. Alright, Kwanzaa should not even think about getting equal billing with Hannukah or Christmas. You are like the nerdy kid trying to hang with the cool kids. Kwanzaa, why don't you hang out with your real social group of Arbor Day and Flag Day?

The website I went to used the word "our" quite a bit as is "our community" and "our brothers and sisters". I'm not sure if the other celebrants are going to include me as a member of "our" celebration.

Happy Holidays,

Chad
