Oh, yes. I saw a bear. To go to any town its a 50 mile round trip. We do a couple of those a week. I was coming back yesterday and saw something up ahead. Instantly I knew that was either a blackened stump or a bear. On the one hand there weren't any other blackened stumps by it and on the other hand it wasn't moving. As I got closer, I could see it was a bear. He was just sitting there on a hillside about 20 yards from the road. There was nothing coming behind me, so I just parked and looked at it. After a little bit it got up and just walked over the hill. It was both really cool and a little frightening at the same time.
I 'm from Oregon and I know there are bears there, but I just assume that I was safe from them there, and here in Kentucky I am fated to be eaten by one. Luckily this one, due to my courage and the fact that I was sitting in a car, didn't get me. When I got back there were like 5 deer in front of my place. Its like I'm living in a zoo.
I've been in the woods quite a bit, but I've never seen much wildlife. I'm not counting types of birds or road kill. Of actual animals in the woods - I saw a fox once when I was growing up. This past year I've seen wild turkeys and this bear. I've been hunting a number of times. The closest I ever came to being an actual hunter is that I came across a dead pheasant once. I currently live on the edge of the Daniel Boone National Forest, but I don't think Daniel would be very impressed with me.
