I was in the Fort Knox area. I've always hear it is where they keep the nation's gold. It gets the name Fort Knox because it is located on that military base. I did not know that. I had heard you couldn't tour the facility. In fact, I figured, being located on the military base, you wouldn't be able to get anywhere near it. It turns out you can see it as you drive down the freeway. I turned around and took a couple pictures out my window as I drove by. Don't try this at home, but I pulled it off. They turned out surprisingly well, considering.
I had an economics class in college. I thought it would be fun to learn about how economics stuff worked. It didn't learn much. It's still a mystery to me. What's the deal with gold? Who decided that was a precious metal? What if I find a really pretty rock in my driveway? Could I use that as money? What good is that gold doing at Fort Knox anyway? What does the Federal Reserve Board do? What are the people at the stock exchange always yelling about? If they are always that upset, isn't that a bad sign in itself? What are bulls and bears and which one am I? If they're smaller, why are dimes worth more than nickels? In the words of Charlie Brown, "Aaaaargh."
I do feel just a little bit smarter, though, just for having gotten that close to Fort Knox.
