Halftime shows

The Ohio State marching band is awesome. They showed some of their highlights on the Today Show this week. There are a bunch of their halftime shows you can check out. Here is one:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNe0ZUD19EE . The stuff they do is amazing. TV used to show marching bands during halftime of games. Now they just show experts talking about what you just saw during the first half.

When I was in high school, somehow we were picked to represent the University of Oregon's band during the Oregon - California game in Berkley. I remember it was a lot of fun. The day before, we got to roam around San Francisco which included elevator races at the St. Francis Hotel. That is a very prestigious hotel with fast elevators. They also were a little scary. They were made of glass, so when we went up I wasn't completely sure we were still attached to the building. Turns out we were, so all was well.

Anyway, at one point during halftime we were in some formation and then morphed into the U of O logo. I was to lead my intrepid band of fellow clarinet players to form the top of the U - something I did flawlessly if I do say so myself. That was a lot of pressure. I get on the wrong yard line and maybe we spell out J of Q or something. Few people get to say marching band was a real highlight of their lives. For me, that event was. That means what happened was a big deal or I haven't had much of a life. Or maybe a little of both.
