You just wouldn't think Dayton, Ohio would be that great of a place to visit. It turns out, at least if you're into planes, it is. The Wright Brothers lived there before and after they went down to Kitty Hawk for their big flight. Most everything else they did was in Dayton. It has their graves, which are right next to each other. That cemetary also has the grave of Erma Bombeck. Interestingly and freakily, she is buried under a rock. Seriously, it's a big ole rock. Weird.
It as the field that the Wrights used for test flights and later became the first airport in the U.S. It has their bicycle shop and several other locations associated with them.
Dayton also happens to contain the U.S. Air Force museum. First of all, it is by far the biggest museum I've ever been in - maybe three times as big. Seriously. I read that someone said they could easily spend two full days there. I thought, no way, but its true. I'm not even that into the whole flying experience, and I thought it was really good.
They also have a great mall south of town. I almost bought a Alex Rodriguez shirt at a sports store in the mall. It was marked down to $3.95. The upside disgraced athletes is that their jerseys go on sale. In fact they had a rack of $3.95 disgraced sports shirts. It had A-Rod, Penn State, and Cleveland Brown jerseys. Cleveland isn't really part of any scandal. I think its just that they can't find people that will pay more than $3.95 for their merchandise.
