Weather

For some reason, I really like finding out about weather. I like watching the weather channel and www.weather.com. I don't really like experiencing weather, but I like weather statistics. For example, today I saw that for July last we got 8.1 inches of rain. That is a lot of rain. Most of that didn't fall on me, because I was in Oregon, but even these past few days its rained about half of them. That wasn't completely typical for here, but most months will be 4 or 5 inches. I did a comparison on weather.com and it turns out that this part of Kentucky gets more rain annually than even Portland or Seattle. A big part of that is because there doesn't seem to be a real dry season here. I'm used to having the summer being relatively dry. Here, it eases up some for a few months, but definitely not dry.

Lets talk humidity. This area has high humidity in the summer and fairly low in the winter. There are people here that own humidifiers and dehumidifiers. Until last year I didn't even know there was such a thing as a dehumidifier. Last year I bought one. They're a little spendy - about $200, but well worth it. I don't mind feeling the humidity outside, but inside or especially trying to sleep, I don't like it. In fact, when I sleep I like conditions to be perfect. Not too hot, too cold, too humid, too light, etc. I'm not that picky when I'm awake, but asleep, I need the right ambiance.

Speaking of sleeping, I fell asleep on the couch last night. It was kind of fun. Sleeping on the couch is the closest I'm going to get to camping. You're not in a bed, so you're kind of roughing it. At least that's how I look at it. If I get hungry, the refrigerator is 10 feet away. If I get lonely, I can turn on Dave or Jay. Its as rustic as I'm going to get. But back to weather, I emptied the humidifier last night. It has an automatic shut-off when it gets full. I hadn't done that before, because I have people that do that kind of thing for me. It is amazing how much water is in the air. There was this huge bucket of water, and it only takes a few hours for it to get full. When I emptied it, the gauge on it said 90%. After it ran for a while it was down to 60% which feels fine.
