Andy Griffith

I'm on the McInternet now (The free internet at McDonald's). I'm in Klamath Falls for just a few weeks, so I didn't get the internet hooked up at our house. Like a homeless person, I go to McDonald's or the public library to use the internet. I looked into getting it hooked up, but they said there was a fee to connect it and then another to disconnect it - That on top of whatever the usual rate is. I don't remember how much that whole cost was, but it seemed outrageous to me, especially when it probably meant some guy just pressing a couple buttons.

Beside no internet, we've had no TV aside from watching DVD's. We rented season 1 of the Andy Griffith Show. If you want to get a feel for what Kentucky is like, watch a bunch of Andy Griffith non-stop. One day I watched 8 episodes, a personal best. As you watch the episodes, you forget Andy has an accent and you come to accept works like "reckon" and "young'uns" as being part of the language. Your start to see things like sweet tea and cornbread as food groups. Andy's show is a good primer for anyone moving to the area.

So my summer in Oregon and the rest of the year in Kentucky each have their own technology issues. In Oregon I have no internet or TV. In Kentucky I have no cell phone service and have to walk a couple hundred yards to get to a place I can use the internet. So its about a draw. Anyway, its time to get things packed up for my trip. I've been busier than a cow's tail during fly season. (A quote from Andy - season 1).
