Fun Run

I was in an oxymoronic "fun run" today. I finished about in the middle of the pack, so that was OK. My time was slightly better that double what I could do when I was fast. Usually its pretty much exactly double so, again, pretty good. The course had a few rolling hills that appeared as mountains as I was running. Also, it was hot. It started at 8:30 in the morning, so I guess it couldn't have been that hot, but it seemed very hot. At the end they had random drawings for prizes. They had so many that well over half got a prize. I did not. Curse you heat, hills, and gods of probability.

I don't know why I run these things anymore. I used to do it with a goal of winning or running fast. I do neither now. Plus I don't win the prizes at the end. They should have these for people that need to get in better shape. However, most all of the people that run them are in good shape already. This one was relatively inexpensive - $15. But that was still way too much. Not too much if you have a chance for winning and glory, but too much to end up exhausted, middle of the pack or worse, and without a prize. This race was a fundraiser. They shouldn't have races as fundraisers. Then they could put in on and not even charge, or maybe just a couple bucks. We were timed with a stopwatch. At the end there were some bananas, orange slices. and bottles of water. I did get a free water bottle when I registered. I forgot about that. Still, they had about 10 sponsors, so I bet all that was donated.

Enough ranting. The rest of today, I'm taking it easy. Later today I'm seeing either Superman or Monsters University. I believe both are fictional movies. At home, whatever I do, it will be while sitting in front of a fan.
