One of my resolutions for this year was to read a Jane Austen book.I'm not quite done yet, but I will be soon. I have about 30 pages left in Persuasion. I know what is going on only because 1.) It is an annotated edition, which has helped me with a lot of the confusing stuff, 2.) Sparksnotes - a website especially made for non-literature types like me. It has chapter summaries, lists of who the characters are, etc., and 3.) I found the movie at a bin in Safeway. The movie clips along at the same pace as the book.
If you like stories with lots and lots of talking and no action, this is the book for you. One of the characters did jump from a wall and got injured when she landed. Otherwise, no action. Usually people are sitting around talking. Occasionally, to spice things up, Jane has them go for a walk as they talk. The book is filled with a lot of people talking about a lot of confusing stuff. People and confusion - two of my least favorite things. It sounds like I didn't like it. Actually I did. It is interesting in its own way. I might read another one of hers. That can be a goal for next year.
